New East Columbia 50+ Center

For years, the 50+ Center in East Columbia was overlooked for renovations while the county diverted resources to other, more affluent areas. The center had to rely on four small rooms for all of its activities, even though it served more seniors than the other, more state of the art centers.

In January 2021, PATH started working with seniors from our congregations, and with the many groups who were part of the 50+ center, including the Tai Chi, men's poker, Soul Dancing, painting, and many other. This culminated in an in-person action with more than 250 people present where we got to participate in Soul Line Dancing, and hear from many residents who wanted a center that could provide the space and opportunities for the seniors and the whole community.

County Council members came and pledged their support, and PATH then worked with the Council to ensure the last $5.5 Million that had been holding up the new building was included in the budget for 2021-2022.

The new building includes over 29,000 square feet and provides space for senior activities, as well as gathering space for the whole community!

On March 7, 2024, PATH celebrated our victory at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Read more in our blog post, and check out press coverage from the Guilford Gazette, the Daily Record, and the Baltimore Sun.
