PATH March Newsletter

We’ve had an exciting month of organizing and are glad to share our March campaign updates with you.

Statewide Campaign

Since January, we’ve been advocating for four statewide bills related to climate justice, affordable housing, and tenants’ rights in the Maryland legislative session. Our support for these bills stems from the experiences of our community members who are facing unhealthy levels of gas in their homes, unaffordable housing, and unfair evictions.

We’ve held two advocacy days at the State House, on February 21st and March 13th, to meet with our legislators about the bills we support. Almost 100 of us from AIM, ACT, PATH, and our allies attended the February 21st advocacy day and left an impact on our senators and delegates.

Thanks to your great work, all of the bills we're supporting this year have made it to "cross over" to the opposite chamber (House or Senate)! Now in the final stretch of the legislative session (before April 8th), we’re emailing our legislators to ask them to push the bills across the finish line. Stay tuned for updates on the bills in the next week.

East Columbia 50+ Center Celebration

On March 7, we celebrated a wonderful victory at the long-awaited ribbon cutting of the East Columbia 50+ Center!

PATH played a key role in winning the final funding (after years of delay) in the county budget for this center, addressing long-term inequity for the seniors of East Columbia. Rev. Tyrone Jones spoke in the ceremony, and PATH leader Pearl Atkinson-Stewart was recognized as being a major leader in the campaign.

Congratulations to everyone who organized to make this victory possible!

New PATH Organizer

We are thrilled to announce that Takeiya Smith, our new full-time organizer, is joining us on Monday, April 1st! Stay tuned for opportunities to connect with Takeiya.
